==History== The company was founded as Grossberger & Kurz Bleistiftfabrik (pencil company) in [[Nuremberg]] in 1855 alongside other pencil manufacturers such as [[Staedtler]] and [[Faber-Castell]] because the area is surrounded by graphite and clay mines. It was acquired by the Schwanhäusser family in 1865. Taking the first part from the family name, the company was renamed Schwan Bleistift Fabrik and started using the swan logo as one of the earliest trademarks. In 1909 the Dermatograph cosmestic pen was created which was primarily used by surgeons for marking skin. During the Great Depression, Schwan had three brands; Stabilo premium pencils for the most demanding users, Othello pencils for mass markets and Swano non-toxic pencils for children. The company rebranded itself from Schwan Bleistift Fabrik to Schwan-Stabilo in 1976 in honour of the Schwanhäußer family. In 1992, Schwan-Stabilo split into two separate companies: Schwan-STABILO Cosmetics and Schwan-STABILO (writing instruments) <!-- It did NOT change its name, or any of the names of its divisions, for that matter. The previous version is very inaccurate per the company's own website information (see http://www.stabilo.com/pages-de/hr/unternehmen_struktur.php). A visibility problem as to this fact does exist on the international (English) version of same website though, where the facts seem to be represented with respect to public accessibility rather than legal accuracy. See http://www.schwan-stabilo.com/gb/unternehmen/struktur.php as opposed to http://www.schwan-stabilo.com/unternehmen/struktur.php . --> The company headquarters is based in [[Heroldsberg]], Germany and have three production subsidiaries: * [[Weißenburg in Bayern]], [[Germany]] where the highlighter is manufactured, incorporated in 1986 * [[Johor Bahru]], [[Malaysia]] where the ballpoint pen is manufactured, incorporated in 1976 as Swan Malaysia * [[Český Krumlov]], [[Czech Republic]] where the wood based pencil is manufactured, incorporated in 1992 ===Gallery=== <gallery> Image:LOGO STABILO 2.jpg|Old Stabilo Logo Image:LOGOSTABILO 3.jpg|Schwan Bleistift Fabrik Logo Image:LOGO STABILO 4.jpg|Schwan Bleistift Fabrik Logo Image:Markeerstift-01 (xndr).jpg|Original Stabilo Boss Highlighter Image:Stabilo Point 88.jpg|Stabilo Point 88 Image:Stabilo's-move.jpg|Stabilo Move Image:Stabilo Boss.jpg|Stabilo Boss Highlighters Image:Stabilo aquacolor2017.jpg </gallery>
